For our next PoCo Eats review, we sent our Secretary, Rob Ancell, to Patina Brewing. This is what he had to say:
This was our first time dining at Patina Brewing. I know that the locals would say “have you been hiding under a rock?” Well the truth is, we have been. We’re not big meat eaters or beer drinkers but we felt that this was a good time to check it out since resuming our regularly scheduled couples night out routine.
Service from the young staff was wonderfully friendly and natural. We were surprised at how big the restaurant was and how big the beer vats were. The environment was clean, easy going, and comfortable
My wife had a cider and she was delightfully surprised. I was served wine in a water glass which took me back to college days when having the right kind of beverage glass was less of a concern (I still prefer a wine glass… it just feels better in the hand). I know it’s a brewery, so silly me for not ordering beer.
We ordered a couple of appies; including smokehouse chicken wings, chips with an interesting queso/nacho-ish cheesy sauce, and chilled spinach dip. We shared the main dish, which included beef brisket with added sides of mac & cheese and smoked brussel sprouts. We enjoyed the food overall. The flavours were fair and not overbearing.
We wrapped up our dining experience feeling content. Unlike many other establishments, Patina supports their employees with Living Wages and the value that you pay for the food and drinks covers that. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
