Downtown PoCo Member Spotlight: Wendy Huang from Artivity Finder
After being diagnosed with a critical illness in 2014, Wendy Huang decided to try art therapy to cope with her condition. The experience inspired her to go back to school and get her Master of Counselling Degree (MC) and an Advanced Diploma from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute (DVATI).
Wendy is now the owner of Artivity Finder, where she helps clients understand their emotions through art therapy. She uses a person-centred approach with 100% empathic listening to help cancer patients, survivors, and children with special needs. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Wendy helps clients in both languages and uses an integration of counselling approach that works with verbal and non-verbal people.
She previously worked for 15 years in the government, helping persons with disabilities and hospital financial assistance applications. This experience has given her a unique understanding of the challenges that marginalized people face.
Wendy is looking forward to introducing this healing method to those who are in need of this therapeutic process. She also runs a monthly group art therapy session at The Fountainhead Network.
